Tinker lanterns: Instructions for dragon eggs made of concrete
We make dragon eggs out of concrete – these large lanterns are painted gold on the inside, they look great and the instructions are very easy.
For the concrete dragon eggs you will need:
Decorative concrete (available in every hardware store)
Any number of balloons
golden acrylic paint
How do I mix decorative concrete?
First, the decorative concrete is mixed with water according to the package instructions. It is a good idea to use an old newspaper or other paperwork if something goes wrong. When the concrete has been mixed well, the balloons come into play.
Each balloon is inflated and placed in a cup. Then apply the concrete evenly to the balloon from top to bottom – about halfway down the balloon. To protect your hands, you should wear gloves when working. When the balloon is in plaster, the concrete has to harden for a few hours. When the concrete has dried, carefully cut the balloon open to allow the air to escape.
Make it glow with acrylic paint and tea lights
You can now carefully remove the balloon without damaging the dried shape. Once the last loose concrete remains have been removed from the tealight, paint the inside with golden acrylic paint. Now you can light up the dragon eggs with tea lights.
You can see how the tea lights are made and how they might look in the end in the following video:
