INFORMATION ON THE INSTRUCTIONS:
GARTER STITCH / RIB (back and forth):
Knit the stitches in every row.
1 ridge = 2 rows in garter stitch = 2 rows on the right.
See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Select the diagram for the desired size (applies to A.1-A.5). The diagrams show all rows back and forth, rows from right to left and rows from wrong side from left to right.
DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 118 stitches) minus the band stitches (e.g. 10 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g. 3) = 36.
In this example decrease by knitting tog every 35th and 36th stitch.
DECREASE TIP-2 (applies to body and sleeves):
All decreases are done from the right side!
Decrease 1 stitch on each side of every A.6 as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left before A.6, knit 2 together, A.6, slip 1 stitch off as if to knit, knit 1, the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch pull.
INCREASE TIP (evenly distributed):
To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 189 stitches) minus the band stitches (e.g. 10 stitches) and divide by the number of increases you want to make (e.g. 24) = 7.5.
In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after every 7th and 8th stitch. On the next row (from the wrong side) work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes.
TO INCREASE RAGLAN:
All increases are done from the right side!
Increase 1 stitch on each side of the 3 knit stitches at each transition between front / back piece and sleeves (= 8 stitches increased on row). Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On the next row (from the wrong side) purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then knit the new stitches on the sleeves in stocking stitch and work into the pattern on the front and back pieces.
Buttonholes are worked into the right panel (when wearing the jacket). Work from the right side until there are 3 stitches left, then decrease as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together and knit the last stitch. On the next row, knit the yarn overs to make a hole.
Work in the first buttonhole when the rib pattern on the neck edge is approx. 1½ to 2 cm long. Then the next 4 buttonholes approx. 7-7-8-8-9-9 cm apart.
WORK STARTS HERE:
JACKET – SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK:
The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle, top down. The sleeves are worked in the round on a short circular needle / double pointed needles, top down.
Cast on: 118-118-123-128-138-143 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Belle. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work rib as follows, from the right side: 5 band stitches in GARTER STITCH – see above, rib pattern (knit 3, purl 2) until there are 8 stitches left on needle, knit 3, knit 5 band stitches garter right. Continue back and forth like this until the rib measures 2 cm – start with the BUTTONHOLES – see explanation above. Knit 1 row where you decrease 3-3-2-7-1-6 stitches evenly – read DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced) = 115-115-121-121-137-137 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side (knit the 5 band stitches in garter stitch).
Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Work PATTERN – see explanation as follows:
5 band stitches in garter stitch, knit 0-0-1-1-0-0, A.1 over the next 16-16-16-16-21-21 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 2, here 1 marker thread (= left front piece), knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 15, 1 yarn over, knit 1, insert 1 marker thread here (= sleeve), knit 2, 1 yarn over, A.2 over the next 3-3 -5-5-7-7 stitches, A.3a over the next 14-14-14-14-16-16 stitches, A.3b over the next 11-11-11-11-13-13 stitches, A. 4 over the next 3-3-5-5-7-7 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 2, insert 1 marker thread here (= back piece), knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 15, 1 yarn over, knit 1 , insert 1 marker thread here (= sleeve), knit 2, 1 yarn over, A.5 over the next 16-16-16-16-21-21 stitches, knit 0-0-1-1-0-0, 5 band stitches in garter stitch (= right front piece). You have now increased 8 stitches as RAGLAN INCREASE – see above. Continue pattern like this back and forth and work the increases in raglan every 2nd row a total of 24-26-29-32-35-38 times = 307-323-353-377-417-441 stitches. NOTE THE KNITTING GAUGE. When the diagram has been completed in height, continue the pattern. When all increases to raglan are finished, the piece measures approx. 19-21-23-25-27-29 cm from the cast-on edge, measured along the front edge. Work the next row as follows: PLEASE NOTE: In sizes S and L, work on the marker threads is now divided into body and sleeves. In size M, XL, XXL and XXXL, take over some of the stitches on the sleeves (= 1-2-1-3 stitches) with the stitches on the body part so that the transition between the body part and the sleeves is no longer on the marker threads: The first Knit 47-50-53-58-64-69 stitches, put the next 65-67-75-77-85-87 stitches on a thread (= sleeve), cast on 8-10-12-12-12-14 new stitches (= on the side under the arm), knit the next 83-89-97-107-119-129 stitches (= back piece), put the next 65-67-75-77-85-87 stitches on a thread (= sleeve), 8- Cast on 10-12-12-12-14 new stitches (= in the side under the arm), knit the remaining 47-50-53-58-64-69 stitches. THE WORK IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE!
= 193-209-227-247-271-295 stitches. Work pattern A.6 (= 8 stitches) over the middle 8 stitches under the arms, work 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side and work as many repeats of the lace pattern as fit in the direction of the sides (the pattern must match the pattern the yoke match!), knit the remaining stitches in stocking stitch. When the piece measures 4 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of each A.6 on both sides of the body – read DECREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches decreased) = 189-205-223-243-267-291 stitches. When the piece measures 15 cm (adjust so that you end in stockinette stitch after a whole lace pattern in height and possibly a few rounds) increase 24-28-35-40-46-47 stitches evenly – read INCREASE TIP = 213- 233-258-283-313-338 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 3 mm. From the right side work rib as follows: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, rib (knit 3, purl 2) until there are 8 stitches left on the needle, knit 3, knit 5 band stitches in garter stitch. When the rib is 2 cm long, cast off the stitches according to the pattern (i.e. cast off right stitches and purl stitches). Make sure that the cast-off edge is not tight, if necessary cast off with a slightly thicker needle. The jacket has a length of approx. 40-42-44-46-48-50 cm from the shoulder down.
Put the 65-67-75-77-85-87 stitches from the thread on one side back onto the short circular needle / double pointed needles size 4 mm and additionally 1 stitch from each of the 8-10-12-12-12-14 stitches on the lower one Pick up the middle of the sleeve = 73-77-87-89-97-101 stitches. Continue in the round in stocking stitch, while working A.6 over the middle 8 stitches mid under sleeve. When the piece measures 4-4-3-3-3-2 cm decrease 2 stitches mid under the sleeve – note DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease in the different sizes as follows:
Size S: Alternately every 2 and 3 cm a total of 11 times.
Size M: every 2 cm a total of 12 times.
Size L: Alternately after every cm and every 2 cm a total of 16 times.
Size XL: Alternately after every cm and every 2 cm a total of 16 times.
Size XXL: every cm a total of 19 times.
Size XXXL: every cm a total of 20 times.
After all decreases there are 51-53-55-57-59-61 stitches on the round. Continue working until the sleeve measures 32-30-29-27-25-23 cm. Now increase 4-7-5-8-6-9 stitches evenly on round = 55-60-60-65-65-70 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Knit 2 cm rib (knit 3, purl 2). Cast off the stitches as they appear (i.e. knit right stitches and purl purl stitches). Make sure that the cast-off edge is not tight – cast off with a slightly thicker needle if necessary. The sleeve measures approx. 34-32-31-29-27-25 cm. Knit the 2nd sleeve in the same way.
Sew the buttons to the left band.
