Good mood diaper bag for on the go
For parents of small children, it’s everyday life: Never leave the house with your loved ones without diapers. Best stowed in a nice and practical bag 🙂
Sewing instructions for a diaper bag
For such a diaper bag we need:
1 x fabric for the outside – 29cm x 39cm
1 x fabric for the inside – 29cm x 39cm
1 x fleece line for the lining – 29cm x 39cm
4 x parts for the compartments (2 in blue, 2 in pink with dots) – 29cm x 16.5cm
Elastic band – 31cm
For the outer part, I opted for a beautiful oilcloth with a monkey pattern (manufacturer: Robert Kaufmann). Since a friend wanted the diaper bag to be embroidered with the name, I combined the oilcloth with coated cotton, because the embroidered name always looks best on a relatively neutral background.
I sewed the part with the name and the oilcloth part together. I turned the sewing allowance over to the oilcloth side and then quilted the oilcloth with a simple straight stitch using presser foot number 53.
This is how the outer part looks now:
To make the diaper bag more stable, I ironed the Vlieseline part onto the left side of the fabric for the inside.
Now place the two pieces of fabric for the compartments with the right side on top of each other and sew together on the long side.
Turn the two fans over, iron and topstitch the outer edges with the blindstitch foot No.5 (needle position on the left).
Now all pieces of fabric are brought together. The inner fabric is visible to you at the bottom. On the right and left you place the two compartments, the quilted edge you put in the middle and the open edge on the outside.
Now comes the outer fabric, with the beautiful right side down (see picture).
To close it, we sew in a rubber band. So on the right between the outer fabric and the right compartment we put a rubber band about 7 cm long. (measured from the outer right edge).
Baste all layers together well so that nothing slips and sew all sides around. Leave a turning opening at the bottom in the middle.
Where the elastic is sewn in, stitch several times, because the area is very stressed during use. Well processed, the rubber band does not jump out when the diaper bag is constantly opened and closed.
I like rounded corners. Please cut off the corners a little as in the picture, so you can shape the corners more beautifully after turning.
Turn the diaper bag over through the reversible opening and sew up the reversible opening. Then the presser foot No. 53 is used again to topstitch the edges.
The diaper bag is ready and ready to be given away! 🙂
