EDGE STITCHES
Slip off the 1st stitch on each row, purl the last stitch.
PEARL PATTERN
Rnd 1: * 1 st on the right, 1 st on the left *
Rnd 2: knit the stitches as they appear in the previous row (knit right sts and purl sts)
Rnd 3: * 1M left, 1M right *
Rnd 4: knit right sts and purl left sts
RIB PATTERN
1st row: * 2M right, 2M left * or * 1M right, 1M left *.
2nd row and all further rows: knit the stitches as they appear in the previous row (knit right st and purl left st).
CAP
Cast on 86 sts (edge stitches included). Knit 8 rounds in 1×1 or 2×2 rib.
Knit 28 rounds in a moss stitch.
K 2 tog, K 15, K 2 tog, * K 14, K 2 tog * 3 times, K 15, K 2 tog (= 80 sts).
Close in a round and distribute between the 4 needles on double pointed needles.

Rnd 6: * K 6, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *. Rnd 7: K Rnd 8: * K 5, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *. Rnd 9: K Rnd 10: * K 4, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *.
Rnd 11: right st
Rnd 12: * K 3, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *. Rnd 13: K Rnd 14: * K 2, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *. Rnd 15: K Rnd 16: * K 1, K 2 tog *, repeat from * to *. Rnd 17: * 2 sts together *. Cut the working thread to approx. 20cm and pull it through the remaining 10 stitches with a darning needle or crochet hook. Tighten the thread firmly and sew it on the inside of the hat.
COMPLETION
Pick up new stitches from the edge of the hat.
Row 1: P row 2: * K 2 tog, U *, repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 3: purl M
Cast off all stitches and pull a satin ribbon or slip stitch cord through the holes.
