Do you have those projects that you start but don’t complete? I feel like I have a long list of those! Last fall, we started on our fire pit area but didn’t finish. The before is what it looked like for the past year (actually, we didn’t even have the blocks around the fire pit ring, until recently). So imagine this with just a round metal piece sitting there. In one weekend, we were able to transform it into the after.

Before…

After…

DIY Firepit Source list

When we started last year, the first thing I bought was the outdoor string lights. I wanted some that I did not have to worry about in the rain, heat or snow. I found these commercial WEATHERPROOF lights and was sold! We used two strands for our fire pit area.

We bought the retaining wall blocks from our local home improvement store. We used approximately 41 blocks and they cost $2.49 each. The metal ring inside the fire pit cost us around $30, which we bought from a local tractor supply store. Building the actual fire pit itself, took us 10 minutes. All we had to do was stack the blocks around the metal ring and we were done. It was that easy!

For someone who shops eBay all the time, I didn’t think of looking for Adirondack chairs on there. I’m so glad I finally did! I found these chairs for $49.99 each and free shipping! That was the main reason we never finished our fire pit…the cost of the chairs. We needed 7 of them and they run anywhere from $99 and up on other websites. Rob did have the task of putting them together and I stained them, but it was worth the money saved. I also found my kilim pillows on eBay. Click here and you can start shopping vintage kilim pillows now!

Next, we found this amazing wood rack. It’s the item we get the most questions about. I wanted something large that held a lot of firewood and this is perfect. This exact one sold out, but I will link two other options here and here.

I’m so glad we finally completed this project. We used it a lot last fall, even with the way it was, but NOW it’s something we are proud of and so are the kids. We all invite friends over any chance we get.

I look forward to making lots of memories out here.
